As the sun rose over the horizon and the first rays painted the farm's fields with golden light, Ruben and Merete could hardly believe that their dream had come true. Farming had always been part of their hearts, but it was when they decided to share this passion with others that a new, exciting journey began.
Together, they envisioned a place where people could unwind from the stresses and strains of everyday life. And that's when the idea of treetop cabins was born.
Mjøsgløtt got its name because of its fantastic views and the fact that you can "Get a little glimpse of Mjøsa".
Skogro got its name from the adventurous atmosphere you get when you're up in Skogro, surrounded by the mystique of the forest, the whispering song of the trees, living wildlife and an inner peace.
It wasn't just treetop cabins that were built; it was also a dream, a declaration of love for nature and for each other. Ruben and Merete found joy in seeing their guests find peace and joy in what had been their own heartfelt project. For them, every sunrise and every starry night was a reminder that dreams, when shared and pursued with passion, have a magical ability to blossom and enrich not only one's own life, but the lives of those with whom one shares the journey.
The farm has been owned by the family since 1984, when Ruben's father bought the farm on the open market. They have since built a new barn, fenced around the entire property, including forest, built up a suckler herd, cultivated more land, made forest roads and ponds and much much more. That is why we have named the concept Tretoppgård.
Ruben and Merete took over in 2017, and have since worked to further develop the farm. This has now ended up in the rental of treetop cabins and experiences on the farm.
On the farm, we have about 20 suckling cows of the Limousin breed. These are for meat production. The calves go out with their mother on the farm's pasture and in the forest all summer, and get all the milk the cow produces. All in all, we have around 50 cattle. Depending on the season, we also have lambs and small calves. We're now preparing for hens, and we're looking forward to offering fresh eggs straight from the farm. Since the tree top cabins are located by a farm, pets are unfortunately not allowed, as dangerous situations may arise.
Born in 1972, Ruben is the father of four, a farmer and machine contractor with a lot of imagination and big dreams. Has been through 2.5 years of cancer treatment, and is now 100% healthy! After this journey, it became more important to make dreams come true, and so the idea of treetop cabins was conceived!
Merete was born in 1980, trained as a preschool teacher and is a mother of 4 with all that entails of driving, picking up, training, meetings, school, kindergarten, etc. She now works reduced in kindergarten to be able to work more with animals, homes and cabins. Together they have a girl born in 2006, and three boys born in 2007, 2012 and 2017. Lots of life and lots of good help!
